MATTOON — A two vehicle accident on Interstate 57 sent four Neoga residents to the hospital.

At 10:30 a.m. Friday, Katherine Williams, 88, of Neoga was driving a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis northbound on Interstate 57 near mile post 184 in the far right lane, while three IDOT trucks with flashing arrow signs were ahead, patching pot holes in the road. Signs were indicating motorists should move into the left lane.

Williams went around the first two trucks before moving back into the right lane, striking the rear of the third truck, driven by Jerry M. Harris, 63, of Mattoon, which also had an arrow sign in right lane near it.

Williams and passengers, Rita Cyr, 89, Shirley Meek, 85, and Helen Bridges, 93, all of Neoga were injured in the accident. Williams and Cyr were transported to Sarah Bush at Mattoon while Meek and Bridges were transported to Carle Hospital.

Willaims was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
