EFFINGHAM — An Effingham man was injured in a single-vehicle accident Wednesday.
According to Illinois State Police District 10, Steven E. Karolewicz, 40, of Efffingham was traveling northbound on Interstate 57 at 6:49 a.m. when he lost consciousness while exiting the interstate at 190B and veered off the roadway. Karolewicz then struck a snow embankment and a guard rail before becoming airborne. He struck multiple signs while airborne and then came to rest several hundred feet down in a ravine.
Karolewicz was transported to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
