EFFINGHAM — Effingham police and the Effingham County Coroner's Office are investigating the Wednesday morning death of a 29-year-old Effingham woman.
Jessica James was pronounced dead at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital emergency room, Coroner Duane Guffey said.
Guffey said preliminary autopsy results revealed no indication of foul play. The coroner added that toxicology tests would not be available for another four to six weeks, however.
Chief Mike Schutzbach of the Effingham Police Department confirmed Thursday that his detective unit was investigating James' death in conjunction with the coroner's office. Schutzbach said such an investigation was routine, given the age of the woman and the apparent lack of prior health issues.
"Whenever a person of this age passes away, it's always a concern if there were no prior health issues," Schutzbach said. "There's nothing we were aware of that should have contributed to the cause of her death."
