EFFINGHAM — An accident on Interstate 57 sent a driver and passenger to the hospital Sunday.
George W. Holt, 53, of Charleston, was driving a gray 1993 Mercury Marquis southbound on Interstate 57 near milepost 159 when he changed lanes in an attempt to do a turnabout in the center lane. As he changed lanes, he moved in front of a 2007 black Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Janice K. Marlow, 55, of Marion.
Marlow then struck Holt from behind, which caused him to spin into the center median.
Holt and a passenger in his vehicle, Elaine I. Holt, 79, of Charleston, were transported to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital with injuries. Holt was cited for operating a motor vehicle without valid insurance and improper lane usage.
