EFFINGHAM — Two separate accidents occurred near the Interstate 70 and Interstate 57 interchange backing up traffic for nearly 3 hours today.
Steve Westjohn, assistant chief of the Teutopolis Fire Protection District, said there were no serious injuries at either accident. He said one women was transported to St. Anthony's because of bumps and bruises.
The call came in around 1:30 p.m. Westjohn said the Teutopolis firefighters were on the scene until around 2:30 p.m.
Westjohn said a semi-truck jack-knifed due to rain during a heavy thunderstorm. Around the same time an accident involving four vehicles occurred also due to weather about a quarter of a mile east down the road.
Traffic was backed up to Montrose because of the accident and routed through Teutopolis until around 4 p.m.
