EFFINGHAM — The mother of a Watson girl found dead last September had a brief hearing Thursday in Effingham County Circuit Court.
Ciara N. DeRyke, 26, is charged with obstructing a peace officer, a Class A misdemeanor. DeRyke is the mother of slain Willow Long. DeRyke's younger brother has been charged with the 7-year-old's murder.
Judge Sherri Tungate agreed to continue Thursday's pretrial hearing to 11 a.m. Jan. 28. DeRyke remains in jail in lieu of $15,000 bond.
Jury selection in the case is scheduled for Feb. 10.
DeRyke is accused of misleading police by lying that she had seen her daughter on the morning of Sept. 8. Authorities believe Willow had already been killed by that time.
Ciara DeRyke is not a suspect in her daughter's death.
