City Police make prostitution arrest at local spa

EFFINGHAM — A woman was arrested for prostitution after an investigation into a local massage parlor Thursday.

Effingham City Police Officers arrested Suncha K. Kim, 54, of Flushing, New York, Thursday after an undercover sting operation at Star Spa Thursday at 702 N. Keller Drive.

The arrest came as a result of a several year investigation following reports of employees of Star Spa soliciting customers for sex. Effingham City Police were assisted by Illinois State Police Meth Response Team and Southern Illinois Drug Task Force. Effingham City Police Investigator Tony Stephens said the investigation has been ongoing since the business opened.

"We've been working on the investigation for quite a while," he said. "We try to do an in-depth investigation. We took some time to work with the other agencies and this was just the final thing."

After the arrest, a search warrant was executed resulting in the seizure of additional items related to prostitution. The case is being forwarded to the Effingham County State's Attorney's Office as well as the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation.

Prostitution is a Class A Misdemeanor which carries a possible year long jail sentence. Stephens said additional charges may be pending.
