EFFINGHAM — A trio of daytime burglaries this week hadn't been solved as of Friday afternoon, but Effingham police hope somebody will come forward soon.

Det. Sgt. Todd Ebbert said all three burglaries, one Tuesday and two Thursday, were committed after the burglar gained entry by prying open a front door. Ebbert added the two Thursday burglaries were likely committed by the same individual or group.

"They were in the same building and happened at the same time," Ebbert said. "We believe they were more than likely the same folks."

Both Thursday burglaries were committed in the 100 block of Illini Drive sometime during the day Thursday. In one heist, jewelry valued at $50 was stolen.

In the second one, however, burglars not only stole a purse valued at $50, but a handgun valued at $550.

Effingham police are also investigating a Tuesday burglary on Walnut Street, in which a laptop computer was stolen.

Ebbert said it doesn't appear the burglars were looking for anything specific.

"I think they just ransacked the apartments and took some random items," he said.

No suspects had been identified by Friday afternoon. Those with information on the heists are encouraged to call CrimeStoppers at 217-347-6583. Tipsters will remain anonymous and cash rewards are offered for information leading to an arrest.
