Woman's death caused by natural causes, not tree limb

Effingham Daily News

---- — Marion Kosek, 83, of Blue Pointe Trail, near Lake Sara, was found unresponsive by a family member early Tuesday afternoon.

According to Effingham County Coroner Duane Guffey, Kosek was discovered on the ground with large tree limbs near her body. EMS was notified and Kosek was transported to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

In an initial investigation, it appeared that Kosek may have died from a blow to the head from a falling tree limb. However, further investigation revealed Kosek had a medical condition that likely caused her death prior to being struck by a tree limb. The death was determined to be of natural causes and no foul play is suspected.

The investigation was conducted by the Effingham County Coroner’s Office, Effingham Water Authority Police and assistance provided by Shumway Fire District.
