Effingham fire officials reported Monday that an Effingham man had been jailed in connection with a Friday evening house fire near Family Video.
Effingham Fire Department reported on its Facebook page that city police arrested Bryan K. Jones, 26, Sunday on suspicion of aggravated arson. Jones is accused of setting the fire that heavily damaged a home at 701 W. Fayette Ave., shown above after the fire. The fire left four people homeless and caused $40,000 in property damage, officials said Saturday. It also rerouted traffic on Fayette Avenue for more than two hours while firefighters extinguished the flames and secured the scene.
The arson is considered aggravated because police say people were at the residence when the fire was set.
Jones is expected to be formally arraigned today in Effingham County Circuit Court.
No other information was available Monday because most city offices were closed for the Veterans Day holiday.
