Deer suspected to be cause of crash outside Yale

YALE — An accident on Illinois Route 49 is being investigated after a motorcycle rider was ejected from his vehicle.

Roy L. Stepp, 48, of Toledo was driving a 2003 silver Yamaha V Star motorcycle southbound at 5:45 a.m. Thursday on Illinois Route 49, one mile north of Yale, when, for an undetermined reason, he was ejected from the vehicle. Stepp landed on the pavement and slid into a ditch.

While the cause of the ejection is still undetermined, Illinois State Police said deer activity was suspected to be high in the area at the time of the accident.

Stepp was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital with injuries.
