EFFINGHAM — Attorneys in the case of a Beecher City woman accused of participating in a methamphetamine manufacturing operation told Judge Allan Lolie Tuesday they are expecting to finalize a plea deal in the next few weeks.
Tara L. Devoe, 18, is charged in Effingham County Circuit Court with meth manufacturing and aggravated participation in meth manufacturing, both Class X felonies with a sentencing range of six to 30 years in prison. She was arrested last month in Shumway, along with three other people.
Both Assistant State's Attorney Ralph Fowler and court-appointed defense attorney Ed Deters acknowledged that they are negotiating a plea deal for Devoe — and that such a deal could be finalized by early next month. Lolie set a pretrial conference for 11 a.m. June 10.
If no deal is reached, Devoe is scheduled to stand trial July 7.
