Council to discuss term length

Effingham Daily News

EFFINGHAM — Discussion of an ordinance regarding the length of employment for appointed officials is among the items on agenda for Effingham City Council meeting Tuesday.

Currently, appointed officials, including police chief, fire chief, department heads and city engineers, work under a yearly contract. The change would create an open-ended position length, but officials can still be let go at any time, according to Mayor Merv Gillenwater.

The council also will:

Vote on closing downtown streets for the Hometown Christmas Event, to be held Saturday, Nov. 30 from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Vote on donating an old squad car to Lake Land College's Criminal Justice Program

Discuss authorizing Milano and Grunloh Engineers to perform engineering, design and survey work for a right-of-way acquisition for improvements to North Raney Street from Ford Avenue to Rickelman Avenue.

The council will meet at 6:30 p.m. at city hall. Look for the complete story on the meeting in Wednesday's print addition of the Effingham Daily News.
