EFFINGHAM — A man is believed to have jumped to his death from Keller Drive walkway Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 12:32 p.m., Illinois State Police received a call about an incident on Keller Drive. Responding to the scene, police discovered a man, approximately 50 years old, on the Exit 160 northbound ramp. State police, Effingham City Police, Effingham County Sheriff's Department and Effingham Fire Department responded to the scene to direct traffic for approximately one hour until 1:30 p.m.

The male was taken by Effingham City-County Ambulance to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital where he was declared dead in the emergency room by the Effingham County Coroner's Office at around 1:45 p.m. The death is still under investigation by the Illinois State Police, but the cause of death is believed to be the result of a jump from Keller Drive walkway onto the ramp.
