BRYANT, Ark. — A Bryant, Ark., police officer fatally shot a man wanted for robbery and homicide that occurred at a bar in Mattoon.
Arkansas State Police say Bryant officers were responding to a burglary call at a drug store late Tuesday when they encountered a man in a fenced-in area. State police say the man and a Bryant officer exchanged gunfire.
Bryant police identified the suspect as 41-year-old Thomas O'Dell, who was pronounced dead at Saline Memorial Hospital. The officer was treated and released from a hospital for his injuries.
Bryant is about 20 miles southwest of Little Rock
O'Dell was a suspect in the March 18 shooting death of Benjamin Newton at Toasters Bar. Authorities say he was also suspected in two vehicle thefts in Missouri.
