EFFINGHAM — The Effingham physician indicted by a federal grand jury is free after a motion to detain him was denied, according to online court records.
Dr. Naeem Mahmood Kohli, who operates the Kohli Neurology and Sleep Center, had been detained earlier this week after he was indicted on fraud, drug distribution and money laundering charges.
Kohli faces a final pre-trial hearing at 9:30 a.m. May 16 at the federal courthouse in Benton. A jury trial is scheduled to begin May 27, also in Benton.
Kohli's office on North Maple Street was not open Friday. The doctor was unavailable for comment.
