Unit 50 meeting moved

TEUTOPOLIS —  Thursday’s special meeting of the Teutopolis Unit 50 Board of Education has been moved to the Teutopolis Grade School auditorium.

The 7 p.m. meeting had originally been sited at the high school media center, but Superintendent Bill Fritcher said the grade school would be a more comfortable venue for a potentially larger crowd.

“The last meeting we had (in the media center) was a little bit crowded,” Fritcher said. “We wanted to make sure we could accommodate as many people who wanted to attend.”

The special meeting was called to present and discuss potential budget reduction measures. Fritcher has said the school district needs to cut about $1 million from its budget for the next fiscal year.

Unit 50 residents have already participated in a survey to gauge public sentiment on what should be cut. Fritcher said there would be opportunity for public input at Thursday’s meeting, even though it is not listed on the agenda.

The board is also expected to meet in closed session to discuss personnel and union issues after the public portion of the meeting. The board is not scheduled to take any action after closed session, however.
