St. Elmo woman charged in death of 1 year-old

ST. ELMO — A St. Elmo woman implicated in the death of her child was arrested Friday.

Heaven N. Davis, 24, of St. Elmo, was arrested at 3:50 p.m. Friday by Fayette County Sheriff's Deputy Shawn Carter on a charge of endangering the life of a child, a Class 3 felony, which carries a potential sentence of three to seven years and a maximum fine of $25,000.

The charge follows the death of Addison Scott, 1, of St. Elmo in January. Scott was brought to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital where she died at the scene.

The charge stipulates that Davis left the child with an individual under the age of 14 and unsupervised, which may have led to the child's injury or death. Fayette County State's Attorney Joshua Morrison said he could not comment on whether further charges would be forthcoming or if additional individuals would be charged in relation to the death.

Davis is being held in Fayette County Jail on a $100,000 bond. She will appear in Fayette County Court at 11 a.m. Wednesday for a first appearance.
