MATTOON — A Mattoon man was arrested after allegedly striking an infant in the head Monday.
Mattoon police were dispatched to a residence at 3:58 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of N. First Street in Mattoon in regards to an 11-month-old boy with a head injury. Officers learned that the infant had been in the care of Michael T. Nadolny, 36, of Mattoon while the child's mother was away.
The child was taken to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center with injuries before being airlifted to Carle Foundation Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
At 5:10 p.m. Monday, Mattoon Police arrested Nadolny and he was charged with aggravated battery to a child. The charge further alleges that Nadolny caused great bodily harm to an infant after striking it in the head.
Nadolny was taken to Coles County Jail. His bond is set at $250,000.
