Cellphone service back to normal after disruption

EFFINGHAM — If you are a Central Illinois resident and rely on a cellphone, you may have felt a little disconnected lately.

According to AT&T management, a network problem disrupted service throughout Central Illinois on incoming calls between AT&T and Verizon Wireless customers. There also was a disruption between landlines and AT&T customers.

“On Aug. 10, we received an email saying there is a network issue causing problems with AT&T and Verizon Wireless cellphone service,” said Seth Wilson, area AT&T store manager.

According to Wilson, AT&T and Verizon share a trunking network. The issue caused connection problems for cellphone users from Effingham to Taylorville.

“We have had people calling in and coming into the store asking what is wrong with their cellphones,” said Wilson.

Specifics were not available at presstime, but according to Wilson, full service has been restored.
