Hundreds still without power

CUMBERLAND COUNTY — Nearly 900 people are still without power, with some having gone without for more than two days.

"We're down to pretty much small groups and individuals," said Larry Short, operations manager with Norris Electric Cooperative. "There's not a whole lot of big areas left."

More than 800 Norris Electric customers, 500 in Cumberland County alone are still without power. Short said the problems were caused by high winds, heavy snow on trees weighing down lines and freezing on the lines. Crews are still working to find all of the problem areas but are having trouble often getting to the affected areas.

"We're still having trouble getting down some of the rural roads," Short said. "If there's not a house on there, they don't plow it but there might be a downed power line there."

Short said he expected power to be restored to all Norris customers by midnight.
