Effingham Daily News

EFFINGHAM — Gov. Pat Quinn today announced capital investments of more than $594,000 for construction projects in Clark, Crawford and Effingham counties, part of his Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program.

“These projects will make transportation safer and more efficient in eastern Illinois,” Governor Quinn said. “They will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy.”

The projects will be overseen by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Two steel bridge structures along Interstate 57 in Effingham County will be cleaned and painted for $298,990 by Madison Coatings Co., Inc. of Hammond, Indiana, the lowest of eight bidders.

New sidewalks will be constructed along various routes in Palestine in Crawford County for $195,456 by Allendale Gravel Co., Inc. of Allendale, the lowest of five bidders.

Roads at 12 locations in Clark County will receive seal coating for $99,970 by Ne-Co Asphalt Co., Inc. of Charleston, the lower of two bidders.

“Improving our local transportation infrastructure is critical to ensure both motorists and pedestrian are traveling safely and efficiently,” State Senator Dale Righter (R-Mattoon) said.

These projects are part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
