Strasburg man killed in farming accident

Effingham Daily News

STRASBURG — A Strasburg man was killed in a farming accident on the family farm in rural Strasburg Thursday.

Phillip Rincker, 23, was helping his father, Otis Rincker, load silage into a silo about 3:45 p.m. Thursday on the family farm in Richland Township when the directional chute came loose and fell about 70 feet, striking the younger Rincker.

Shelby County Coroner Brian Green pronunced the younger Rincker dead at the scene at 4:07 p.m. The young man died from injuries sustained when he was hit by the chute. The coroner did not say where the chute struck the young man.

An autopsy will not be performed, but an inquest into the death will be conducted at a later date, said Green.

Phillip Rincker’s mother, Donna, is a teacher at Stewardson-Strasburg schools and his grandfather is former Teutopolis coach Lawrence Carie.
