A worker escaped injury when an old fuel storage tanker exploded Monday afternoon in the back of Effingham-Clay Farm Services at 410 S. Willow St.
FS Facility Manager Steve Kuhns said a worker was using a cutting torch on a supposedly empty tanker when some residual diesel fuel ignited.
Effingham Fire Department responded to a call at 1:57 p.m. and used water to cool the tank.
Workers reported hearing a boom and felt the FS building shake when the explosion occurred.
Fire Chief Joe Holomy said there is no chance of another explosion and no environmental danger.
