'The Wedding Singer' on stage beginning June 24

— SULLIVAN — The Little Theatre on the Square will open the musical “The Wedding Singer” on June 24. The show will run through July 5.
Tickets are $28 and are available by calling 217-728-7375 or 1-800-261-9675. Performances are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
The year is 1985 and Robbie Hart is New Jersey’s favorite wedding singer until his fiancee dumps him at the altar. Broken-hearted, Robbie becomes a disaster at every wedding he plays until he meets Julie, a waitress. Julie is about to get married, unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a lifetime.
This musical comedy takes you back to a time when neon was in, collars were up and the guy with the mullet hairdo may have been the coolest guy in the room. Based on the 1998 movie starring Adam Sandler, this musical opened on Broadway in 2006. Songs in the production include “Somebody Kill Me,” “It’s Your Wedding Day” and “Someday.”
