July 4th area festivities

Newton
NEWTON — The 138th Annual Jasper County Fair kicks off Saturday, June 28, with entry day and continues through Saturday, July 5, with a slate full of activities planned for each day.
Food, displays, carnival rides and entertainment are all on the schedule for this year’s Jasper County Fair.
The schedule of events includes:
Saturday, June 28
• Entry day.
Sunday, June 29
• 3 p.m. — Harness racing.
• 8 p.m. — Angela Lilly Trio, gospel singing.
Monday, June 30
• 1 p.m. — Harness racing.
• 6:30 p.m. — Pedal tractor pull.
• 7:30 p.m. — Queen pageant and Little Miss pageant.
Tuesday, July 1
• 1 p.m. — Harness racing.
• 7 p.m. — Flat drag races.
Wednesday, July 2
• 4:30 p.m. — 4-H auction.
• 6 p.m. — Twilight harness racing.
Thursday, July 3
• 10 a.m. — Golden afternoon.
• 4 p.m. — Harness racing rain date.
• 9:30 p.m. — Non-sanctioned tractor pull.
Fireworks.
Friday, July 4
• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Antique farm machinery.
• 6 p.m. — Kids’ Fun and Games.
• 7 p.m. — ITPA Tractor pull.
Saturday, July 5
• 6 p.m. — Demo Derby.
Edgewood
EDGEWOOD — The annual Edgewood Fest is set for Saturday, June 28, at Edgewood Ball Park.
Included in this year’s festival are a parade, games, raffle, fireworks and entertainment.
An Independence Ride Edgewood Fest Poker Run open to all bikes and vehicles is set to begin after the parade. All vehicles participating in the run will follow the American Legion Color Guard and fire trucks in the parade, then leave for a 70-mile ride. Entry fee is $10 per hand. Cash prizes will be awarded. All proceeds from the run will benefit Edgewood Fest.
The schedule of events includes:
• 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — Independence Ride Poker Run, register at town hall, entrance fee is $10.
• 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — Parade registration at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Broad St. Judging begins at 12:30 p.m.
• 2 p.m. — Waterslide (children bring swimsuits), jumping balloons, kids games.
Kiddie Tractor Pull registration begins.
• 3 p.m. — Kiddie Tractor Pull, ages 4 to 12, tractors and sled provided.
• 4 to 6 p.m. — The Edgewood Opry.
• 5 p.m. — Little Kids Big Wheel Races, ages 4 through 7.
• 6 p.m. — Joni’s Power Tumbling.
• 6:30 p.m. — Games for adults, wedding cake blindfold races, redneck whiffleball, etc.
• 7:45 p.m. — Raffle drawing.
• 8 p.m. to midnight — Poss Music.
• 9 p.m. — Fireworks.
Dieterich
DIETERICH — “Flags Fly for the Fourth of July” is the title of this year’s Dieterich Fourth of July Celebration. Events are planned for Thursday, July 3, and Friday, July 4, in Dieterich Liberty Memorial Park.
On the schedule are:
Thursday, July 3
• 5 p.m. — Food stand and beer garden opens.
• 8 p.m. — Koonskynners.
Friday, July 4
• 8 a.m. — 5K walk/run.
• 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. — Hog roast dinner at Dieterich Kluthe Center.
• Noon to 8 p.m. — Mechanical bull and NASCAR tire change.
• 1 p.m. — Washer tournament.
• 1 to 3 p.m. — Youth fishing tournament.
• 1:30 p.m. — Pedal Tractor Pull.
• 2 p.m. — Four-wheeler Pull.
• 3:30 p.m. — Duck races, barnyard bingo, 50/50 drawing.
• 4 p.m. — Off-road bed races.
• 5 p.m. — Young king and queen.
• 7 p.m. — Variety/talent show.
• 8:30 p.m. — Merchant raffle drawing.
• 9:30 p.m. — Fireworks.
In addition to scheduled events, games, refreshments, balloons, dunking booth, carnival rides, barrel train rides and pony rides are available all day during the festival.
Habitat for Humanity will hold an open house Friday at the home under construction in Dieterich.
Shelbyville
SHELBYVILLE — A day full of events is planned for the Fourth of July in Shelbyville.
Due to the high water levels at Lake Shelbyville, all Shelbyville events will be held in Forest Park.
In addition to activities on the schedule, during the day there will be kayak demonstrations/rides in the cove; Illinois Muskie Tournament Trail will be doing demonstrations; children’s games — watermelon eating contest, sack races, balloon toss, etc.; volleyball tournament; dunk tank; Spencer Montgomery 600 Outlaw Mini Sprint Racing; food; entertainment; and games.
• 10 a.m. — Bird Walk on the Dacey Trail, Forest Park entrance. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
• 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. — Inflatables, including 22-foot giant slide, gladiator joust and a castle bounce house
• 11 a.m. — Shelby County Lincoln Heritage will be selling bottled water as a fund-raiser.
• 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. — Food will be available from Shelbyville Dairy Queen.
• 3 to 4 p.m. — Kris Power Tumbling and Dance.
• 4 p.m. — Barker’s Balloonery & Bridal DJ Service with ’50’s & ’60’s music.
• 4 to 5 p.m. — Christ Tabernacle Church of Herrick Praise & Company Choir directed by Jack Porter.
• 5 to 6 p.m. — Shelby Winds will be performing Sousa marches and other patriotic sounds.
• 6 to 9 p.m. — Wes Wheeler and the Battle Creek Band.
• Dusk — Fireworks.

Herrick
HERRICK — Music, food and entertainment are on the schedule as Herrick celebrates the Fourth of July.
Activities scheduled include:
Thursday, July 3
• Community Church Service, gospel music, teen dance.
Friday, July 4
• 10 a.m. — Parade, followed by kids foot races.
• 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. — Live country music.
Stewardson
STEWARDSON — Stewardson’s Independence Celebration will be held Sunday, June 29, at the village park.
A lunch stand will open at 1 p.m. and will serve sandwiches, chips, drinks, homemade ice cream and funnel cakes throughout the afternoon and evening.
A lemon-shakeup and cotton candy stand will be on the grounds at the park during the event and waterslide, raffle and Bessie Bingo competitions will run during the day. At 1 p.m. a garden tractor pull is scheduled.
On the park stage, a dance and cheerleading demonstration is set for 7 p.m.
Fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.
Lake Sara
Fireworks are at dusk Thursday, July 3, on Lake Sara, rural Effingham.
Effingham
Events for Effingham’s Fourth of July celebration kick off at 9 a.m. Friday, July 4, and wrap up with a fireworks display at 9 p.m.
The full day of activities includes musical entertainment, games, food and a chance to swim free at the city pool.
Effingham Park District’s schedule of events includes:
• 9 to 11:30 a.m. — Khoury League All-Stars at Khoury League Field in Community Park.
Cal Ripken All-Stars at Cal Ripken Field in Community Park.
• 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. — Girls Small Fry Fourth of July All-Star Tournament at Girls Softball Diamond in Evergreen Park.
• 9:30 a.m. to noon — Free admission to community pool. Hot dogs for 25 cents.
• 12:30 to 4 p.m. — Boys Small Fry Fourth of July All-Star Tournament at Community Park.
• Noon to 7 p.m. — Regular admission to community pool.
• 2 to 3 p.m. — FACE Orchestra performing at Hendelmeyer Park Recreation Center.
• 6:30 to 9 p.m. — Live entertainment at Hendelmeyer Park.
• 8:50 p.m. — Color Guard presentation and National Anthem.
• 9 p.m. — Fireworks at Hendelmeyer Park.
Activities for the Fourth of July also are planned across the street from Hendelmeyer Park Recreation Center at Village Square Mall.
Activities scheduled include:
• 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. — Classic Pony Firecracker Car Show with 9 a.m. to noon registration, ’50s, ’60s and ’70s music and food.
• Noon to 8 p.m. — Children’s free activities, including hula hoops, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, coloring pages, jump rope and guessing game. Pony rides.
• 4 p.m. — Children’s games to benefit Effingham County Humane Society, including duck pond, toilet paper toss, face painting, kitty litter game.
• 5 p.m. — Hot dog eating contest, $5 entry fee, registrations must be received by July 1, 217-347-0623.
• 5 to 9 p.m. — Entertainment by The Reckless Binge and Slipshift, $5 cover charge.
