---- — Mildred Louise Heater, 90, of Effingham, formerly of Tolono and Crawfordsville, Ind., passed away at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013 at Willowbrook (formerly Aspen Creek) in Effingham, after an extended struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Pagel Funeral Home in Edgewood, followed by graveside services in Loy Chapel Cemetery.
Mildred was born Aug. 14, 1923 in Crawfordsville, Ind., to William Erbert and Victoria (Hodges) Underwood. She was married to Robert “Ernie” E. Heater on Dec. 6, 1952 in Terre Haute, Ind.
Mildred was a homemaker. She liked to tell stories of her youth, how she could dance on roller skates and enjoyed being a waitress because she loved people. Family was everything to her; she loved her husband, and was loved steadfastly by him. He cared for her at home for many years, until he became ill. She was called “Nanny” by her grandson; they shared a birthday and she loved every minute spent with him.
She is survived by daughter, Sue Getz; her husband, Paul of Effingham; grandson, Kyle Getz of Effingham; brother-in-law, Dick Grindley of Crawfordsville, Ind.; and a niece, Teresa Davis of Crawfordsville, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; stepfather, Carl Nooman; brothers, Jim Underwood and Bob Underwood; and sister-in-law, Vivian Grindley.
