---- — Clifford Eugene Durbin, 94, of St. Elmo, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, with family and friends by his side.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 24 at C & A Pagel Funeral Home in St. Elmo from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25 at Trinity United Methodist Chapel (Post Oak), rural St. Elmo, with visitation one hour before. Burial will follow in Springhill Cemetery, north of St. Elmo. Memorials may be made to New Horizon Church, Trinity Chapel or the St. Elmo FFA.
Clifford was born in Avena Township on Nov. 10, 1918, son of Charles and Tena Durbin. He married the love of his life, Daisy Hopper, on Feb. 2, 1939, and they enjoyed 73 years of marriage. He enjoyed family, friends and farm life.
He was a farmer, but during his life he held various other jobs including hired hand, oilfield roughneck and brickyard laborer. For 27 years, the job he loved best was driving a school bus because he loved the kids. He was a member of New Horizon Church in St. Elmo. He served as Democrat Committeeman for Loudon Township, Cemetery Trustee for Loudon Township, and Cemetery Trustee for Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
He is survived by his children, Marilyn (Dwayne) Dial, Charlie (Nancy) Durbin, Barb (Paul) Shelton, all of St. Elmo; and Tena (Greg) Matas of Oreana; grandchildren, Doug (Juanita) Dial, Randy (Amy) Matas, Ryan (Vickie) Matas, Kyle (Sarah) Matas, Josh (Tanisha) Fulk, Chelsy Durbin, Amy Fulk, Clifton Durbin, Deana and Dana Shelton; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy; his parents; sisters, Cleo, Dorothy and Edna; and brothers, Elwood and John.
