Richard Edward Evans Sr., 65, of Beecher City, died at 10:10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.
A gathering to celebrate Richard’s life will be held on Friday at New Horizons Church, 502 West Tower Road, St. Elmo, from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the family. Richard was born on Tuesday, April 20, 1948, in Stonington, to Roy and Clara (Mitchell) Evans. He had been a door greeter at Wal-Mart in Effingham.
Richard is survived by his wife, Georgia Benjie Toppins of Beecher City; sons, Richard E. Evans Jr. (Jacqueline) of Beecher City and Clint Evans (Rachel Graves) of Brownstown; daughters, Jennifer Howell (Rob) of Dieterich and Pam Duckwitz (Mark) of Beecher City; stepdaughters, Kathalene Rust of Indianapolis, Joan Scroggins (Lloyd) of Sonora, Calif., and Vanessa McKee (John) of Beecher City; stepsons, Damian Black (fiancee Rachel Glenn) of Fort Bliss, Texas, and David Black of Beecher City; sisters, Rita Davis (Ross), Cindy Merrill, Barb Cox (Bob) and Nancy Kramer (Phil), all of St. Elmo; brothers, Dick Evans (Brenda) of Effingham, Roger Evans (Brenda) of Altamont, Roy Evans Jr. (Carol) and Tom Evans, all of St. Elmo; sister-in-law, Erma Evans of Altamont; 18 grandchildren, Trey (fiancee Lorene Gentry) and Courtney Evans, Clint Evans Jr., Taylor Graves, Gracie Norris, Brandon Duckwitz, Christine Duckwitz, Thad Howell, Chelsi Duckwitz, Tasha Duckwitz (fiance Cody Harpster), Derek and Tatyana Duckwitz, Isabella Scroggins, Lloyd Scroggins, Chad, Alexis, Dakota and Andrew McKee; and great grandson, Sebastion Houser; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George and Larry Evans; sister, Toni Evans; and grandson, Hunter Duckwitz.
