---- — Ralph Quentin Holsapple, 94, of Newton, passed away at 12:05 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2013, at St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church, Newton, with the Rev. Tim Pearce and the Rev. David Eadie officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Greenup Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one-half hour prior to service time Friday at the church. Masonic rites will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. In loving memory of Ralph, memorials may be made to the Eagle’s Nest Teen Center. Ralph was born Sept. 1, 1918, in Greenup, the son of George C. and Dora E. (Ward) Holsapple. He married Evelyn Welker on Nov. 23, 1939, in Henderson, Ky. Ralph served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Ralph retired from the United States Postal Service after 20 years and was a farmer. Ralph was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Newton, Newton Masonic Lodge 216 and the Jasper County Farm Bureau. Ralph also served his community in other areas by serving on the Newton Grade School Board and as a 4-H leader in the Vanderhoof community.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 73 years, Evelyn Holsapple of Newton; children, Gwendolyn K. (David) Eadie of Mt. Vernon, Susan L. (Robert) Simmons of Newton, Janet E. (Dennis) Hattermann of Valdosta, Ga., George Charles “Chuck” (Shirley) Holsapple of Newton; son-in-law, Clayton Brunner of Marion; grandchildren, Lynette (Greg) Denzer of Collierville, Tenn., Sarah (Josh) Rhea of Jacksonville, Kindra (Matt) Eagin of Round Rock, Texas, Emily (Mike) Lindgren of Bourbonnais, Kelly (Caleb) Baker of Newton, Devin (Amanda) Holsapple of Newton, Brandon (Megan) Hattermann of Valdosta, Ga., Kari Beth Holsapple of Newton, and Elizabeth Hattermann of Valdosta, Ga.; 12 great-grandchildren, Kaleb Rhea, Ben Rhea, Alex Denzer, Becca Denzer, Robbie Denzer, Sean Eagin, Patrick Eagin, Wesley Lindgren, Elise Lindgren, Rylie Baker, Dakota Baker and Chloe Holsapple.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia Ann Brunner; four brothers, Golden, Ivan, Kenneth and Hugh Holsapple; and sister, Reva Holsapple.
