Floyd Neil White, 79, of Effingham, formerly of Herndon, Ky., passed away at 1:20 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Marion.
Floyd’s wishes were to be cremated. There will be no services or visitation at this time. Interment will be in Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Axson, Ga., at a later date. Memorials may be made online in Floyd’s memory to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org. Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, is assisting the family with arrangements. Floyd was born May 23, 1933, in Altoona, Fla., the son of Lewis C. and Eileen (Shores) White. He married Peggy Ann Davis in May 1983. She preceded him in death July 2012.
Floyd was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served as an airplane mechanic. He was the owner of White’s Electric in Windsor and later was an independent truck driver. Floyd owned his own Cessna airplane and flew until two years ago. He also built and raced Sprint Cars.
Floyd is survived by his son, Daryl (Jennifer) White of Gun Barrel City, Texas; daughters, Lori (Brett) Poorman of Sullivan and Amy (Randy) Kohnert of Watson; brother, Mahlon White of Florida; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Peggy; sister, Judy; and brothers, Lewis and Lowell.
