On Sept. 30, 1933, she married Lester R. Wood, also of Effingham, who died in 1993. During their life together, “Jeary and Les” lived in Effingham; Mobile, Ala.; Dublin, Ind.; and Coraopolis, Pa. They returned to Effingham in 1985.
Jeraldine loved dancing, playing cards, bowling, fishing, dogs and lots of hot black coffee! She lived independently in her home until June. She talked to and made friends with strangers wherever she went.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Wood and his wife Marilyn, of Granger, Ind., and four beloved grandchildren, Justin Wood of Nevada City, Calif., Brendan Wood of San Francisco, Calif., Adam Wood of Granger, Ind., and Katherine Wood of Bloomington, Ind. She said her family was her proudest achievement. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
She had a special friend in her sister-in-law, Joyce Mietzner of Effingham and was blessed by the companionship of two gentlemen friends after Lester’s passing, Ralph Thoele of Teutopolis and Floyd Phillips of Newton.
