---- — Mary Elizabeth Gressel, 61, of Effingham, and formerly of Charleston, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Krabel Funeral Home, Oakland. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. She was born on Aug. 11, 1952, in Seattle, Wash., to Howard McLean and Marion (Gwinn) McLean. She married James Koester, he preceded her in death. She later married Sam William Gressel on June 7, 2000, at her mother’s house in Charleston. Mary enjoyed playing bingo, sewing pillow cases and was the biggest fan of the local band Big Blue Mountain.
She is survived by her husband, Sam; two brothers, James McLean of Springfield, and Bill McLean of Virginia Beach, Va., and several nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents.
