Beulah Dolores Petty, 96, of Effingham, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Chapel, Effingham, with Pastor Kevin Colclasure officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday. Burial will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Funkhouser.
Beulah was born Sept. 14, 1916, in Cumberland County, to Granville and Iva (Grissom) Kingery. She married Virgil F. Petty on Dec. 25, 1936, and he preceded her in death. She was a charter member of Willow Street Church of Christ, which is now Cornerstone Christian Church.
She loved children and taught Bible school for more than 32 years while at the church. Beulah worked as a part-time cook for Unit 40 for 12 years and was also a lifelong member of the Ladies Home Extension Group. She was an avid gardner and loved growing flowering plants, especially roses and African violets, which were her favorites.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Heuerman (the late, Floyd) of Effingham; brothers, Forrest Kingery and Dallas Kingery (Hazel), both of Effingham; and sister, Virginia Fulk of Effingham. Beulah was a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Beulah was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil Frederick; daughter, Sharon Habing; brothers, Noble Kingery and Vernon Kingery; and sisters, Reba Hinker, Bernice Donaldson and Barbara Shadley.
