Carl Roger Bowers, 87, of Effingham, completed his earthly circle of life and went to his eternal life with our Father at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Evergreen Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bishop Funeral Home, Greenup, with Don Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Aten Cemetery, Hidalgo. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. In loving memory of Roger, memorials may be made to the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be left at www.blakefh.com.
Roger was born Jan. 20, 1926, near Hidalgo, the son of Basil and Goldie (Sowers) Bowers. He married Irene Ellen White on Sept. 4, 1949, in Hidalgo, and she survives.
Roger served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war, he went work for the Illinois Central Railroad for 15 years and retired in 1986 from the United States Postal Service in Auburn.
Roger enjoyed making wind chimes and was always willing to lend a hand to someone in need.
Roger is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ellen Bowers of Effingham; son, Roger D. (Cheryle) Bowers Sr. of Sedalia, Mo.; daughter, Kathy L. (George) Spallinger of Findley; grandchildren, Roger D. Bowers Jr., Michael (Heidi) Simons, Pascha (Brian) Shire, Lori (Troy) Burnett, Pam Bowers, Aaron Spallinger, Adam Lemarr, George (Kendra) Spallinger Jr., Sara Spallinger and Danny (Deanna) Spallinger; and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, Colton, Nicole, Taylor, Christopher, Matthew, Kayla, Elizabeth, George III, Cheyenne, Gracie, A.J., Braden, Gavin, Teyha, KyLyn and Paige.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Oral Bowers.
