Steven Cash Devall, 63, of Newton, passed away at 10:58 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2014, at St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Services celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the New Life Christian Center in Newton with Bro. Brad Snowden. Burial will be in the South Bend Cemetery in rural Ste. Marie. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. In loving memory of Steven, memorials may be made to the New Life Christian Center. Online condolences may be left at www.blakefh.com.
Steven Cash Devall was born on Jan. 12, 1951, in Pleasant Mound Township in Bond County, the son of Roscoe and Florence Genevieve (Cole) Devall. Steven graduated from Mulberry Grove High School in 1969. He attended Greenville College and later graduated from the University of Illinois in 1974. Steven married Karen Lea Harrison on March 8, 1975, and she survives. Steven started his career with FS in 1978 and recently retired from South Central FS. He was well known over the region by livestock farmers through his work at FS. He was a member of the New Life Christian Center serving as a board member. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and tinkering around the house. Steven’s greatest joy was his family and he loved being a Grandpa.
Steven is survived by his wife of 39 years, Karen Devall of Newton; four children, Jason (fiance Christy Beckham) of Springfield, Mo., Katrina (Logan) Marshall of Olney, Rachel (Buck) Brown of Dieterich, Melissa Devall of Newton; two grandchildren, Micah and Elijah Marshall of Olney; four siblings, Janice (Robert) Tompkins of Smithboro, Jim (Donna) Devall of Collinsville, Nick (Pat) Devall of Greenville, and Deb (Charles) Miller of Vandalia; and several nieces and nephews.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ruth Ann Messina.
