Evelyn Ardel Slone, 87, of Watson, passed away at 6:25 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at Evergreen Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Watson United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow in Watson Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday prior to the services at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham. Evelyn Ardel was born on Aug. 10, 1926, in Watson Township, the 10th of 11 children born to Jerome and Bertha (Hosman) Webb. She married Gilbert G. Slone on June 8, 1946, in Effingham, and he preceded her in death on May 7, 2010. Ardel was a member of the Watson United Methodist Church. She was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Always a talented seamstress, Ardel became a gifted quilter after her retirement. Never one to seek praise, she saw her talent as just something she did to pass the time.
Ardel is survived by her children Jim, wife Cheryl of Belleville, Debra, husband Dennis Johnson of Effingham, and Sue Bradford of Watson. Also surviving are grandchildren, Israel Slone, John Slone, wife Somer, Christian Bradford and Lindsey, Gretchen Fuhr, husband Clayton, Katie Smoron, husband Scott, Kimberly Dubbelde, husband Josh, Colin Bradford, wife Kristina, and Kelly Johnson; great-grandchildren, Jace Slone, Kinley and Nolan Slone, Avery and Alex Dubbelde, Reece Fuhr and Cohen Bradford.
In addition to her husband Gilbert, Ardel was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Ed Bradford; brothers, Leo (in infancy), Jesse, Louis, Elwyn, Lester and Dale Webb; and sisters, Ida (in infancy), Esta Scott Keller, Lucille Percival and Iva Evans.
