James Richard McDaniel, 83, of Effingham, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at Heartland Christian Village, Neoga.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Cornerstone Christian Church, Effingham, with a greeting of the family for food and fellowship immediately following the service. Pastor Kevin Colclasure will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cornerstone Christian Church or Christ’s Church, both of Effingham. Jim was born Nov. 25, 1928, in Flora, the son of Mark and Thelma (Moore) McDaniel. He married Lulu Atchison on Oct. 6, 1954.
Jim owned Effingham Truck Sales Inc. from 1965 until the present and was owner/operator of Effingham Truck Plaza until 1990. He was a member of Cornerstone Christian Church in Effingham. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. He was awarded Effingham Citizen of the Year in 2008. He was also a Mason and Shriner.
He is survived by his wife, Lulu; daughters, Julie (husband, Aaron) Koester, Jill (husband, Mark) Steppe and Jayme (husband, Jim) Lustig, all of Effingham; grandchildren, Josh Koester, Katie Koester, Adam Steppe, Alex Steppe, Jaclyn Steppe, Olivia Lustig and Luke Lustig; stepgrandchildren, Sarah Cowger, Drue Van Meter and Louis Koester; great-stepgrandchild, Lyla Van Meter; and sister, Marilyn (husband, Ron) Fisher of Lansing, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
