---- — Dorothy Leona McGregor, 87, of Dieterich, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Center, Effingham, after a lengthy battle with brain cancer.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Centenary United Methodist Church, Effingham. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Effingham. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham. Memorials may be made to the quilters at Centenary United Methodist Church. Dorothy was born on Nov. 27, 1925, in Olney, the daughter of Charles Irvin and Bessie (Berger) Schwartz. She married Daryl A. McGregor on April 5, 1947. Dorothy was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Effingham. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved to garden, crochet, knit, sew and especially spend time with her family and her quilting friends at church where she quilted for many years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Dorothy is survived by four children, Constance (Jerry) Timmons of Effingham, Janice (Steve) Zuber of Olney, Anita (Gary) Zanger of Quincy, and Harold (Kathy) McGregor Sr. of Dieterich; 17 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; two great-stepgrandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Frank (Thelma) Schwartz of Olney; sisters, Freda Runyon of Noble and Helen Stacy of Niantic; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, and brothers-in-law.
