---- — Gene Huber, 71, of Willow Hill, passed away at 11:13 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Newton, with the Rev. Aloysius Okey Ndeanaefo celebrating mass. Burial will be in Brooks Cemetery, rural Newton. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church. In loving memory of Gene, memorials may be made to the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Gene was born Sept. 6, 1942, in Casey, the son of Bernard “Ben” and Marjorie Evelyn (Warren) Huber. He married Nancy Highgate on Aug. 12, 1993. Gene worked for the Jasper County School District for over 30 years. He enjoyed working and helping others. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Oblong.

Gene is survived by wife of 20 years, Nancy Huber of Willow Hill; nine children, Sheryl (Charlie) Roberts of Holden, Maine, Jon Brent (Kelly) Huber of Hidalgo, Jamee (Anna) Huber of Oblong, Steven (Johanna) Fleckenstein of Big Spring, Texas, John (Beth) Fleckenstein of Bozer City, La., Lisa Fleckenstein of Austin, Texas, Carol Fleckenstein of Clarksville, Tenn., Janet Hudson of Clarksville, Tenn., and Rita Fleckenstein of Ajo, Ariz.; three brothers, Gilbert Huber of Urbana, Mo., Bob (Pat) Huber of Richland, N.C., and Jack (Betty) Huber of Yale; one sister, Ethel (Ron) Dhom of Newton; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill, Bud, David and Ray Huber; sisters Betty Lou Butler, Faye Huber, Marge Wilson and Mardell Weiscope.
