Gerald L. “Pete” Chancellor, 80, of Toledo, went to be with Jesus at 4:20 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bishop Funeral Home, Greenup, with the Rev. Scott Sims officiating. Burial will be in Greenup Cemetery with military services provided by the Greenup VFW. Memorial contributions may be made to Lincolnland Hospice, Lincolnland Visiting Nurses or to the Cancer Center at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, with envelopes available at the funeral home. Pete was born in Mattoon, on July 5, 1933, to William E. and Fern (Hanner) Chancellor. Pete married Joanna Colangelo on October 26, 1957, in Oaktown. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He worked for Western Electric for 22 years, for Illinois Consolidated in Mattoon for 20 years and at Mattoon Wal-Mart after his retirement. Pete was a member of the Greenup Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joanna of 57 years; his son, David of Toledo; his daughter, Sandy and her husband, Billy Gilbert of Greenup; his granddaughter, Ashley and her husband, Rex Whetsell of Charleston; his grandson, Adam Gilbert of Greenup; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Vance and Anna Chancellor of Toledo, and Don and Rosie Chancellor of Greenup; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful canine “Lilly Beth.”
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ray; his sister-in-law, Marilyn; and his nephew, Danny.
