---- — Wanda Ruth Green, 86, of Newton, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home, Newton. Burial will be Headyville Cemetery, rural Newton. Visitation will be two hours prior to service time at the funeral home. In loving memory of Wanda, memorials may be made to Headyville Cemetery. Wanda was born on Oct. 24, 1926, in rural Ingraham, the daughter of Perry and Susie (Galloway) Bickers. She married Delbert Green on Jan. 20, 1949, in Wakefield, and he survives. Wanda was the Newton and Jasper County area news reporter on various area radio stations for nearly 40 years. This was a job which she truly loved. She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church in Newton. Wanda was an avid bowler. Most of all, Wanda was totally devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren, all of whom in turn were devoted to her. She will be sadly missed by many.
Wanda is survived by her husband of 64 years, Delbert Green of Newton; three children, Diane (Larry) Carr of Pekin, Bob (Jayne) Green of Newton and Bryan (Melane) Green of Salem; eight grandchildren, Kenton Carr of Peoria, Brenton (Tina) Carr of Hartland, Wis., Justin Green of Salem, Clayton Green of Belleville, Andrew Miller of Collinsville, Amanda Miller of Collinsville, Cole Vieira of Salem and Joshua Green of South Carolina; and eight great-grandchildren, Aaron Carr, Riley Carr, Derek Carr, Cameron Carr, Tristan Green, Adelyn Miller, Melanie Green and Christopher Green.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Sam Bickers and Dale Bickers.
