---- — Marcella M. Clasby, 90, of Alton, passed away at 8:20 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2012, at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton with her family at her side.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Marquette Catholic High School. Marcella was born on March 19, 1923, in Alton, the daughter of the late Leo and Florence (Lengacher) Schmidt. She married James “Jim” Clasby on Aug. 14, 1944, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He survives.

She had worked at Nolles Insurance Company and Union Tank, and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, an avid gardener, and enjoyed roses, traveling and reading.

Marcella is survived by her husband; son, Dr. Dan (Patricia) Clasby of Effingham; grandchildren, Dr. Daniel (Dr. Nicole) Clasby of Forty Fort, Pa., Julie (Joseph) Osborn of Godfrey, Ryan Clasby (fiancee Cristina Fernandez) of New Haven, Conn., Christopher (Caroline) Clasby of Effingham; great-grandchildren, Ella, Benjamin, Daniel, Sophia and Jackson Osborn of Godfrey; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Schmidt of Godfrey.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Marvin, Ralph, Gerald and Elden Schmidt.
