---- — Clifford W. Clagg passed away Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at the Newton Rest Haven.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, at the West Lawn Cemetery, Newton, with Pastor Nate Hagen officiating. Burial will be in the West Lawn Cemetery. Memorial gifts for Clifford may be made to the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be offered at www.crainfuneral.com.

Clifford was born on April 11, 1919 in Piper City, the son of James and Bertha (Bower) Clagg. Clifford served his country in the United States Army during WWII. On March 24, 1946, he married Ella Marie Sowers. She preceded him in death on Aug. 29, 2008. Clifford was a retired farmer and a member of the Sandy Creek Christian Church.

Survivors include his son, Earl Clagg of Effingham; daughter, Linda (husband Larry) Koester of Newton; grandsons, Chad Koester and Kevin Koester of Newton; and great-grandson Drake Koester.

His parents; wife, Ella Marie; and brother, Byard Clagg, preceded him in death.
