VANDALIA — James A. Bray, 81, of Vandalia, died at 5:48 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 at Altamont Lutheran Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia, with Revs. Peter Kolb and Jerry Bagwell officiating. Burial will follow in Dieterich Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church Radio Ministry or Lutheran Care Center, Altamont. James was born on Sept. 24, 1931, in Neoga, the son of Ellis E. and Thelma (Phillips) Bray. He married Marlene (Mascher) Bray on Aug. 21, 1955.
James was an electronic technician for the Fedaral Aviation Administration for 33 years, and was also a United States Navy Korean War veteran. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and Crowford-Hale American Legion Post 95.
James is survived by wife, Marlene Bray of Vandalia; sons, Robery (wife Vicky) Bray of Altamont, Frederick (with Ruth) Bray of Effingham, Dennis (wife Kathy) Bray of St. Peter; grandchildren, JR (fianceE Kiley Willison) Bray of Eugene, Ore., Erin (husband Josh) Moffit of San Diego, Holly Bray of Effingham, Kristen (husband Jason) Park of Chicago, Kyle Bray and Rachel Bray, both of St. Peter; great-grandchildren, Thaddaeus Moffit, Camilla Park; and sisters, Neva (husband David) Casstevens of Olney and Louise Price of Waverly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Henry Bray, Raymond Bray; and half-brothers Noel Bray, Ross Bray and Richard Bray.
