David H. Morgan, 90, of Effingham, formerly of rural Dieterich, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home, Newton, with Carroll Ross officiating. Burial will be in Headyville–McQueen Cemetery, rural Jasper County, with full military rites by Jasper Post 20 American Legion. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time Thursday at the funeral home. In loving memory of David, memorials may be made to the Headyville Christian Church-McQueen Cemetery Fund. David was born on April 5, 1923, in Jasper County, the son of Bruce and Winnie (Kistner) Morgan. He married Charlene Price on July 23, 1942, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 21, 1970.
David was a lifelong farmer in Jasper County. He was a member of the Headyville Christian Church and the Effingham VFW. David served his country during World War II in the United States Army. David was proud to be a veteran and flew his flag every day. He loved the Morgan Centennial farm, his family and friends very much. He also enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and bird watching. His love, humor and stories will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A very special “thank you” to Esther Thompson who was a wonderful caregiver.
David is survived by four children, Sue (Mike) Maculevics of Geff, David L. (Sandra) Morgan of Slidell, La., Kay (Bill) Diel of Dieterich and Becky (Danny) Zimmerman of Charleston; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara (Art) Rauch of Newton; and brother-in-law, Dean Chesnut of St. Joseph.
David was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sisters, Pauline Schmack, June Bangert, Millie Chesnut; brothers, Howard Morgan and Edwin Morgan; and great-granddaughter, Morgan Elizabeth.
