---- — Bernard A. Spracklen, 90, formerly of Shelbyville, died at 12:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at his residence at Aspen Creek, Effingham.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Shelbyville, with the Rev. Don Wolford as celebrant. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, Aug. 28, at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Building Fund, Shelbyville, or Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, Donaldson, Ind. Bernard was born on May 4, 1923, in Shelbyville, the son of John Vinson and Cora Mary Domas Spracklen. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1941. Bernard was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He returned from the service and joined his brother, Marion, at Spracklen Radio in Shelbyville. Bernard retired from Spracklen TV in Shelbyville in 1978. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Shelbyville, and Knights of Columbus, Council 8690, Shelbyville. He married Johanna Elizabeth Niebrugge on Oct. 7, 1950, in St. Mary’s Church, Green Creek.

He is survived by his wife, Johanna; son, Michael A. Spracklen and wife, Debra, of Shelbyville; daughters, Mary Loy and husband,Sam of Bible Grove, Julie Lord and husband, Jerry, of Decatur, Janet Allen and husband, Randy, of Shilo, and Martha Dagen and husband, David, of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Clara Richter, Molly Allen, Emily Miller, Kathy Bollum, Andrew, Adrienne and Adam Dagen, and Jeff, Jacob, Andrew and Anna Spracklen; and great-grandchildren, Layla, Isabella, Anthony and Will Spracklen, and Adelynn Miller.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marion, John, Paul and Domas Spracklen; and sisters, Marie York, Virginia Lombard and Ella Rose Fuller.
