NEWTON — Floyd W. Verdeyen, 83, of Newton, formerly of Altamont, died Friday, April 5, 2013, at his home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 8, 2013, at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont, with a Rosary Service at 8 p.m. A private family funeral mass will be held. Burial will be at St. Clare Cemetery, Altamont. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Floyd was born on April 30, 1929, in Effingham to Frank and Della (Bushue) Verdeyen. He married Clara Louise Vogel in 1950, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 1989. He was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont, Carpenter’s Union Local, VFW and the American Legion. Pfc. Verdeyen served the U.S. Army with 11th Airborne Division Occupation Forces in Japan in 1947.
He is survived by his sons, Robert (Cindy) Verdeyen of Fort Myers, Fla., Donald Verdeyen, Steve Verdeyen of Fairview Heights and David Verdeyen of Bedford, Ind.; his daughter, Linda (Rich) Will of Montrose; his sisters, Ada (Rex) Foreman of Strasburg, Joyce (Randy) Holste of Midlothian; his brothers, John Verdeyen of Teutopolis and Larry (Judy) Verdeyen of Stewardson; 16 Grandchildren, Robbie, Kenny, Danny, Barbara, Becky, Bettina, Joshua, Aaron, Larissa, Andrea, Amber, Ashley, Dustin, Tiffany and Travis, 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Lloyd Verdeyen; two sisters-in-law; daughter-in-law, Judy Verdeyen; and grandson, Matthew Verdeyen.
