Clayton Carroll Ervin, 75, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Barkley Funeral Chapel, Toledo. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, July 5, at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Toledo Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Toledo Kiwanis. Carroll was born on Sept. 21, 1937, in Coles County. The son of Clayton and Nova (Swick) Ervin. Carroll was the middle of five children. His siblings are Jerry Ervin (deceased), Maxine (Maurice) Calvert of Ste. Marie, Johnny (Madonna) Ervin of Greenup and Angie Miller of Evansville, Ind. He was a graduate of Newton High School. He married Mary Stitt on June 8, 1957, in Corinth, Miss.
Carroll, a businessman and farmer, was a 50-year member of Toledo Kiwanis and served on the First Neighbor Bank board of directors since 1977. He was very committed to his family and his community. He had a passion for flying and a love for animals and helping others.
Carroll is survived by his loving wife, Mary; two children, Barb Hall and Greg (Christie) Ervin, both of Toledo; four grandchildren, Kylee Ervin of Nashville, Tenn., Cole (Season) Ervin of Toledo, Lacy (Joe) Wargel of Evansville, Ind., and Lyndse Hall of Nashville, Tenn.; and two great-grandchildren, Jett Ervin of Toledo and Winnie Wargel of Evansville, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jerry.
