Delores June McCoy, 83, of Effingham, passed away at 11:07 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at her home.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Church of Christ, 1311 S. Fourth Street, Effingham, with Curtis L.E. Graves officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Effingham. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, and 30 minutes prior to the service Sunday at the church. Delores was born on Aug. 16, 1930, in Benton, the daughter of Niles and Ruth Johnson. She married Walter A. McCoy on March 30, 1973, and he preceded her in death on May 17, 2005. Delores was a member of Church of Christ, Effingham. She was a loving, Christian woman, who was deeply devoted to God, her church family, her husband, and her extended family. She was a fabulous cook who shared her home and goodies with many. She also spent many years in devoted work at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. She will be greatly missed as she was loved by so many.
Delores is survived by her children, Myrna (Michael) Chapple of Atlanta, Georgia, Mark Shaw of Effingham, and Chuck (Linda) McCoy of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Misty Cowan of Scottsdale, Arizona, Mandy Cowan of Brussels, Belgium, Shawan (Ray) Emer of Atlanta, Alexandria Chapple of Baltimore, Maryland, Nicole (Nicholas) Black of San Diego, Vanessa Chapple of Atlanta, and Mary Beth McCoy of Mount Carmel; great-grandchildren, Elecia Smeth, Alaina Emer and Myranda McCoy; nephews, Lindell Ray Johnson, Gordon Johnson and Robert Perry; and honorary family members, Scarlet (Wendell) Haws and their sons, Troy, Brian and Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; brother, Niles Johnson Jr. and his wife, Delpha; and brother, Kenneth Johnson and his wife, Helga “Tiny.”
